About Us
Commander Peter Fitt is a Port Logistics practitioner who qualified as a Master Mariner before going on to study Industrial Engineering. As a young man he was responsible for developing one of the first Shipboard Planned Maintenance Schemes for a large shipping company.
After a spell of Naval service where he received the State President's Commendation, he designed Mobilization and Manpower Planning Systems for the South African Navy.
From there, Peter went on to implement Supervisory Training as the HR Manager of a Stevedoring Company.
In 1985, he founded the Maritime Institute whose primary role is the conduct of courses in Port Operations. Centered on the Port of Durban, courses were also conducted in 11 countries in Southern Africa.
He settled in Canada in 2001 where the concept was expanded to Canada, and the on-line courses were developed. Peter now conducts Port Productivity Courses in Canada, Australia and Southern Africa.
The West Coast Maritime Institute has students in 18 countries.
